Industry's first hardware and software support for Sigfox Monarch services are certified reference designs based on ST's S2-LP sub-1GHz RF transceiver and STM32 MCU or BlueNRG SoC

Ready-to-use remote monitoring and asset tracking device solution with global inter-regional Sigfox geolocation capabilities

Expanding the STMicroelectronics Industrial IoT portfolio based on S2-LP's long-range ultra-low-power wireless connectivity solution

STMicroelectronics (ST; NYSE: STM), the world's leading semiconductor supplier across multiple electronic applications, is the first global seamless access and development company to develop and market certified industry standards. A low-power, long-range wireless IoT connectivity solution that supports the world's leading IoT service provider Sigfox's Monarch global tracking and location services chip maker.

ST's solution allows users to create regionally independent smart IoT products that can be automatically connected to the local Sigfox network anywhere in the world for cross-regional mobility, geolocation and asset tracking without relying on more expensive GPS or GNSS positioning equipment. These products include smart parcels or supply chain management and industrial asset management markets that provide auxiliary tracking capabilities at airports or transportation hubs, such as smart pallets. The region-independent feature also enables smart IoT product vendors such as consumer electronics or commercial IoT devices to unify product standards across multiple markets, simplifying manufacturing processes and logistics management.

Benedetto Vigna, president of STMicroelectronics Analog Devices, MEMS and Sensors, said: "The extensive global reach of Sigfox's network provides a unique global IoT connectivity service for remote surveillance and industrial asset management. This ready-to-use solution supports the Sigfox Monarch network. Completed ST's existing IoT ecosystem, providing developers with one of the fastest-listed IoT connectivity solutions, enabling ST's customers to quickly develop new, cost-effective, secure, real-time connected global seamless tracking and positioning products The solution itself has the advantages of long-distance transmission and ultra-low power consumption."

STMicroelectronics offers developers a complete Sigfox Monarch Network Software Development Kit (SDK), as well as hardware development kits, reference designs and tools to accelerate project development.

Raupi Chehih, chief executive officer of Sigfox, said: "The launch of this Monarch solution shows that we are building a solid business relationship with ST, which will further magnify the huge potential of the Internet of Things market. This ultra-low power Sigfox based on S2-LP The Monarch solution will provide a superior user experience for customers who require devices to operate seamlessly around the world, opening countless use cases in the logistics and supply chain, consumer markets, and shipping, aircraft and rail automation maintenance industries."

The fully certified Sigfox Monarch solution is based on ST's S2-LP ultra-low-power, long-distance sub-1GHz RF transceiver, which automatically connects to the local Sigfox band in all relevant regions of the world (RC1 to RC6). Sewing the global Sigfox network and geolocation services.

The SDK suite runs on the STM32 MCU family and benefits from the STM32's robust lineup, including a family of low power and high performance products. For example, for demanding applications, ARM® Cortex®-M4-based MCUs enable efficient data pre-processing and AI native operation, reducing network traffic requirements.

In order to quickly start new product development, ST's S2-LP RF transceivers can also be used in the STM32 Open Development Environment (ODE), including the X-NUCLEO-S2868A1/-S2915A1 (released at the end of the fourth quarter of 2008) expansion boards and X-CUBE-SFXS2LP1 Sigfox Ready software extension package.

The SDK suite also supports a convenient dual-RF reference design based on the S2-LP and BlueNRG-2 Bluetooth low-power system chips, making it easy to configure, maintain, and post-configure the device with a convenient smartphone application.

ST's STSAFE security components enhance the network protection of the product, and its wide range of industrial motion and environmental MEMS sensors make it easy to improve product design.

The Sigfox Monarch-certified LPWAN connectivity solution and ST's rich portfolio of IoT and industrial products make STMicroelectronics a one-stop sourcing provider for real-time processing and always-connected remote monitoring and asset tracking application innovation.
