STMicroelectronics' PWD5F60 high-power driver is the second in a family of STMicroelectronics high-voltage brushed DC motors and single-phase brushless DC motor power driver system packages, integrating 600V / 3.5A MOSFETs in a 15mm x 7mm package Phase full bridge and gate drivers, bootstrap diodes, protection and two comparators. A more thermally dissipative system-in-package occupies 60% less board space than discrete devices, while increasing reliability and simplifying design and packaging.



The PWD5F60 is a single-phase full-bridge module designed to control brushed DC motors in industrial pumps, industrial fans, blowers, appliances and factory automation systems. It is especially suitable for single-phase brushless motors to ensure high durability and energy efficiency. And the cost-effective product equipment, good economy and convenience make it suitable for power supply.

The PWD5F60 integrates an internal 1.38Ω N-channel MOSFET with excellent energy efficiency to ensure it handles medium power loads. Optimized gate drivers improve switching reliability and reduce EMI (electromagnetic interference), while integrated bootstrap diodes enable high voltage startup without the need for external diodes and passive components for high-side input power.

Two unconstrained embedded comparators ensure flexible module configuration for peak current control or overcurrent and overtemperature protection. Peak current control with Hall effect positioning sensor enables a separate controller without the need for a dedicated MCU, significantly reducing the cost of controlling the electronics. Other flexibility features include adjustable dead time and configuration of the MOSFET as a single full bridge or two half bridges. The operating voltage range is extended from 10V to 20V, and the input is compatible with 3.3V-15V control signals, simplifying the connection of the module to the Hall sensor or the main microcontroller or DSP.

The drive module has built-in protection against cross-conduction and under-voltage lockout to prevent the device from operating under inefficient or hazardous conditions.

The PWD5F60 is now in volume production and is available now in a multi-base VFQFPN package. The new device will be on display at the STMicroelectronics booth in the C3 / 101 Hall of the Munich Electronics Show in 2018 (November 13-16).
