Molex, a global provider of electronic solutions, introduces the compact 2.2-5 RF connector system and cable assembly designed to provide high frequency and low passive intermodulation (PIM) functionality. Molex worked with the 2.2-5 Alliance to develop a shape factor of 2.25 by adopting and miniaturizing the mature 4.3-10 form factor. Molex's 2.2-5 RF connector is 53% smaller than the 4.3-10 connector and can support frequencies up to 6 GHz.

According to Darren Schauer, product manager at Molex, "In the modern mobile telecommunications field, the shape factor of existing connectors is pushing the limits of power and space constraints. Network designers need more compact connectors while still achieving lower levels. PIM.2.2-5 Connector systems and cable assemblies are ideal for compact antennas, mobile communications and radio applications."

Wireless and 5G network infrastructure requires coaxial jumpers to provide superior electrical performance and robust environmental performance to withstand a variety of factors. Molex's 2.2-5 RF cable jumpers are pre-assembled at the factory and provide NEMA IP68 rating protection after insertion to protect the connector system from dust and moisture ingress.

The IP68 class 2.2-5 system is equipped with an air dielectric interface for excellent bandwidth and low insertion loss in 5G networks and in any application where space and signal capacity are critical.
