Expanding the footprint of wide-bandgap semiconductors in the industry, semiconductor solutions provider ROHM, and wide-bandgap developer GaN Systems announced their collaboration in the GaN (gallium nitride) Power Semiconductor business. This strategic partnership leverages GaN Systems’ wide-bandgap expertise and ROHM’s considerable resources in the design and manufacture of electronic components. The companies will develop form-, fit-, and function-compatible products.

There are many companies migrating into this challenging space. One exampIe is Littelfuse, who is increasing the commercial availability of next-generation Silicon Carbide semiconductor devices. Once known for their passives and infrastructure products, Littelfuse’s purchases of the IP and manufacturing capability needed by acquiring companies like IXYS and others allow it to make their latest family of SiC MOSFETs, diodes, and power modules, covering an application range from 650V to 1700V.

Technology

Toshiba exhibits the latest innovations in semiconductor and optoelectronic technology at PCIM that enhance efficiency and system reliability. In addition, they support solutions for automotive, power and motor drive applications. Toshiba's solutions will also help designers improve system reliability and reduce size and weight. Mechanical relays are subject to wear during their use and are being replaced by optical relays. Optical relays have no wear mechanisms and can produce greater reliability in small packages.

ON Semiconductor is exhibiting and demonstrating its extensive range of devices and system solutions for cloud power, energy infrastructure, automotive and industrial power and motion, plus its launched Strata Developer Studio design support tool at PCIM Europe. The show is also provide the forum for the launch of several important new products that address applications ranging from solar inverters to IP cameras.

Infineon is launching power products and solutions that will make a difference and deliver customers a cutting edge in competition. With the safe completion of the production ramp of its Silicon Carbide (SiC) MOSFET base technology, Infineon enters high volume production of a comprehensive discrete product portfolio of 1200 V CoolSiC MOSFET devices.

Allegro MicroSystems is show a new coreless current sensor IC and the industry’s quietest brushless DC (BLDC) motor control solution at the PCIM Europe 2019. These new devices are helping to fulfil the company’s promise to move technology – and the world – towards a safer and more sustainable future. The new coreless current sensor IC – the ACS37650 – offers substantial space savings by eliminating the need for a concentrator core in high-current sensing applications while providing closed-loop sensing, with extremely low noise and high resolution.
