Allegro announces the APS11700/760 family of micropower Hall-effect switches designed for battery-powered applications in the harsh industrial and automotive markets, powered directly from automotive batteries or other unregulated power supplies. Automatic power management enables average supply currents as low as 6μA. The power management of the new product is in the background, transparent to the host system, and can be used to directly upgrade existing Hall effect switches, or to replace mechanical microswitches and reed switches.
Jim Judkins, Director of Allegro Position Sensor IC Product Lines, explains: "The APS11700/760 has unique reliability and ultra-low power consumption, reliably replacing reed switches or microswitches, and even battery-powered, power-sensitive applications."
These monolithic devices integrate a standard Hall plate or vertical Hall element, a small signal amplifier, a chopper stabilizer, a Schmitt trigger, an automatic power management controller, and an NMOS output transistor. The APS11700 uses standard planar Hall-effect sensing components, and the APS11760 uses silicon-based vertical Hall-effect sensing component AVHT technology, which is more sensitive to magnetic flux parallel to the IC package surface. Planar sensitivity and common reed switches Equally comparable.
The APS11700/760 devices are pre-configured with user-selectable magnetic sensitivity, threshold and polarity, and the user can select active-high or active-low outputs for easy integration into the subsystem. These ICs can withstand voltages up to 40V and junction temperatures up to 165°C, comply with AEC-Q100 Grade 0 and ISO 26262:2011 ASIL A standards for automotive and other safety systems. In addition, they feature internal protection circuitry to prevent overvoltage, battery reversal, load-dump, output short-circuit, mannequin ESD up to ±11kV, and other EMC conditions.
Typical applications for the APS11700/760 devices include:
On/Off/Latch Sensor for Automotive Doors, Covers, Luggage, LCD Screens, Interior Lighting, etc.
Gearbox, pedal and other driver control / human machine interface (HMI)
liquid level sensor
Tilt angles for 2 and 3 wheel vehicles, docking brackets and HMI sensors
White goods / other electrical appliances
Intelligent motion control for robots, vending machines, fitness equipment, electric blinds/curtains/shades
The APS11700/760 devices are available in two packages, the LH package is a SOT-23W, miniature, flat package for surface mount applications. The UA is a 3-pin, ultra-small single in-line package (SIP) for through-hole mounting. Both packages are lead free and the leadframe is 100% matte tin plated.
