In July 2018, Infineon Technologies announced the resonance controller IC "ICL 5102" designed for power supply and lighting drivers. Samples and reference designs are on sale, and the product will be available in the second quarter of 2018.

ICL 5102 is suitable for industrial lighting and LED drivers for road lighting and the like. The DSO-16 package was adopted, and PFC (power factor improvement) and half bridge controller were combined.

The PFC controller has brownout detection, total harmonic distortion (THD) that can be adjusted for light load operation, power factor improvement. It has excellent bus voltage detection accuracy and can operate with 4 pins.

The resonant half-bridge controller is equipped with a 650 V high-side driver using built-in coreless transformer. The driver corresponds to the maximum operating frequency of 500 kHz and automatically adjusts the dead time at 250 to 750 ns. In addition, overload, short circuit, BUS, half bridge, output low voltage, overvoltage, overheat can be detected. Built-in capacity mode regulator prevents operation in advance mode.

The ICL 5102 has an input voltage of 70 to 325 VAC and standby power is suppressed to less than 300 mW by the active burst mode. It also supports high speed startup of less than 100 μA and 500 msec. The total harmonic distortion is less than 3.5%, and the efficiency achieves a maximum of 94% by the resonance topology. The product can also be used for off-line AC-DC power supplies and liquid crystal televisions.
